Event Guidelines
Before the event
Schedule events to avoid as much of, if not all of the period 11am and 4pm during daylight saving time when the ultraviolet radiation is most fierce.
Look at sites in advance and ensure the best SunSmart options are taken and utilise existing shade.
Organise for shade structures for your event - marquees, tents and umbrellas and encourage people to bring their own shade structures. Your local
Cancer Society
may have umbrellas/shade structures available for loan.
Put a SunSmart message on your programmes, invitations, flyers, tickets, posters and signage
Encourage officials, participants etc to:
Wear
hats
with wide brims (at least 7 cm) or bucket style hats (at least 6 cm).
SunSmart
clothing
such as shirts with collars and long sleeves.
Apply and bring
SPF30+ broad-spectrum sunscreen
.
Arrange a supply of
SPF30+ broad-spectrum sunscreen
for those who may forget to bring their own.
During the event
Give
SunSmart reminders
over the public address system.
If possible, provide a shade oasis where shade, sunscreen, seating and water are available.
Nominate a staff member or volunteer to roam around the site at regular intervals with sunscreen to encourage participants to reapply.
Where merchandising is occurring, make hats and sunscreen available for sale.
