Implementing sun protection policies in local councils

Congratulations – your council has agreed to improve sun protection.

The key task is to update your project plan to focus on the tasks needed to support the introduction of the sun protection policy. These include:

  • Raising staff awareness about the issue. Your policy will be most successful if council staff and your community understand why it is needed. You could run an awareness and training session.
  • Incorporating sun protection into planning and building approvals.
  • Communicating the new policy to the public and key stakeholders. Ensure at least one team member is in charge of promoting the policy to stakeholders and the media.
  • Evaluating the policy will help you understand if it is working.
